It looks like Patrick Dempsey is ready to be back on a TV show again! This time he will be playing a politician. CBS is premiering a show called Ways & Means where Dempsey will be not only starring but he will also be an executive producer!
Deadline describes the show as followed: “Written by Murphy and Redlich, Ways & Means centers on a powerful congressional leader (Dempsey) who has lost faith in politics. He finds himself working secretly with an idealistic young congresswoman from the opposing party to subvert the hopelessly gridlocked system he helped create; together, they’ll attempt to save American politics — if they don’t get caught.”
This is definitely a role that will take all Grey’s fanatics some time to get used to, as we’re so used to seeing him in a scrub cap. Since leaving Grey’s Anatomy, we haven’t seen Dempsey in as many things as most of us would like.
This is one of many projects CBS has in store for us. Mike Murphy and Ed Redlich are writers and executive producers on the project from CBS Television Studios. Nina Tassler, Denise Di Novi and Tom Lassally are executive producers. Joannie Burstein is a co-executive producer.
This will be Patrick Dempsey’s first network TV series since leaving Grey’s Anatomy, which he starred as main character Derek Shepherd for eleven seasons before he was killed off.
In 2016, Dempsey told People “I’m very grateful for Grey’s Anatomy, it’s given me the opportunity to do everything. But at the same time, there was a cost. I think after a certain period of time, no matter how much money you make, you want control out of your own schedule. It had been long enough. It was time for me to move on with other things and other interests. I probably should have moved on a couple of years earlier. I stayed a bit longer than I should have.”
Pompeo has spoken out saying her and Dempsey hadn’t spoken since he left. Since then, we have seen Dempsey here and there and he has even done some international work. I think we can all agree it’s time to have some more Dempsey in our lives again.
We don’t have an air date for Ways & Means just yet but should be determined by CBS soon enough! Let’s see what our beloved McDreamy has in store for us as we prepare to go from seeing him in the operating room to seeing him in a political meeting!
